Supervisors are an important part of the management of a firm. There is not only one single role played by a supervisor. The main purpose of a supervisor is to ensure that the team achieves the desired productivity and is able to meet all set goals and objectives for them. Their primary job is to evaluate the workers progress at operating level.
Supervising and planning one step ahead
All day to day schedules of employees are prepared by supervisors. It is their duty to delegate work to each employee keeping in consideration their qualities and strong areas. If the employees work in shifts then it is the supervisor’s duty to assign them their shifts according to their availability. Sometimes even team meetings are organized and set up by the supervisors. The schedules made should be in accordance with the employees’ availability and their convenience. The supervisor, when forming their schedules and delegating work to them, their interests and skills are to be kept in mind.
Managing and supervising
It is the duty of the supervisor to evaluate each employees progress and to make sure they are meeting all deadlines set out for them. A supervisor needs to provide his guidance to the employees which are in need of it. The supervisor may also need to record the employees work performances at set time intervals. It is important for the supervisor to take certain steps to make sure that all the firms rules and regulations are being followed any the employees, and to make sure that there is discipline and mutual respect among the employees.
Providing support
It is the supervisor’s duty to ensure that the employees are able to meet the set goals. To help this purpose, the supervisor may provide the employees with some incentives if necessary, a supervisor is a leader for the employees under him or her. The supervisor provides the employee with guidance if they need it, this might be done by fixing production targets or by providing them instructions. The supervisor may as well provide the employees with counseling. This helps creating better relations between the supervisor and the employees.
